In partnership with the National Committee on United States-China Relations, Furman’s CHINA Town Hall begins with a livestream webinar featuring Fareed Zakaria, CNN Worldwide host, columnist, and best-selling author, from 7-8pm. Zakaria will discuss the current state of US-China relations, the primary challenges and opportunities confronting both countries, as well as the global implications of a continued downward spiral in bilateral relations.
Following the webinar, Furman will host Ben Harburg (Managing Partner, MSA Capital, Beijing, and Board member of the National Committee on US-China Relations) to discuss “China’s Investment Climate—What To Expect Amidst US-China Tensions and Regulatory Interventions.” Mr. Harburg will share a view from the front lines of the US-China trade war and its impact on capital flows, innovation, supply chains, talent, public markets, and the forward globalization of technology. Explore the ramifications for global investors of the recent Chinese regulatory actions targeting major domestic technology firms, through the eyes of a fund with over $2 billion invested in many of China’s sector leaders (food delivery, ride hailing, micro mobility, chips, autonomous driving, electric vehicles, gene sequencing, big data, etc).
Following his presentation, Mr. Harburg will field audience questions, moderated by Dr. Kate Kaup, James B. Duke Professor of Asian Studies and Politics/International Affairs and Board member of the National Committee on US-China Relations.
CHINA Town Hall connects leading China experts with Americans around the country for a national conversation on the implications of China’s rise on U.S.-China relations and its impact on our citizens, businesses, towns, states, and nation. Each year, The National Committee broadcasts a live conversation between National Committee President Steve Orlins and a prominent China analyst simultaneously to over a hundred local venues across the country. Each local venue pairs the national conversation with an invited speaker of particular interest to its local community. Furman University is proud to host Ben Harburg, Managing Partner of MSA Capital, Beijing, to discuss “China’s Investment Climate—What To Expect Amidst US-China Tensions and Regulatory Interventions.”
We look forward to seeing you for a lively discussion on October 19th!
