UIWG Carter and Holmes Orchid greenhouse fieldtrip

The International Women’s Group would like you to join us for a fieldtrip to the Carter & Holmes Orchid greenhouse in Newberry, SC.
Our tour will start at 10.00am as we sit down for a Home Orchid Growing 101 presentation on how to grow orchids, tips on making them re-bloom, and how to take care of them. Our tourguide will also tell us about the Carter & Holmes business.
After this introduction we will go on the orchid safari, a walking tour of the greenhouses with orchids and tropical plants growing in various stages from seedling to flowering size.
Please be advised that the greenhouses are not accessible with walkers, rollators or wheelchairs. The aisles are very narrow and there are stairs in/out of some greenhouses.
Handbags, camera bags and other bags/totes are not allowed in the greenhouses because the bags can damage the plants as you walk through. Bags should be left locked in vehicles or in the secure filing cabinets in their office.For those not able to go on the safari, you can wait in the general office and sales area until the rest of the group returns.
After the tour we will have some more free time to look around and/or purchase plants.
We will then return to Greenville. For those of you that have some extra time we are planning a visit to the small Wells Japanese Garden in Newberry (about a 8 minute drive from the orchid greenhouse location). If the weather cooperates we are planning a brown bag/picnic lunch at the Japanese garden. There are some picnic tables at the garden but those are first come first serve.
In case of bad weather, or when all tables at the Japanese garden are occupied, we will opt for a lunch in downtown Newberry at The Grille on Main.
You can drive to the Orchid greenhouse and meet our group there or you can opt to car pool. Car pool location will be giving upon RSVP. Please note driving distance to Newnerry from Greenville is approx.. 1 hr and 15 minutes.
