Trevor Rubenzer

Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Department of History, Political Science, and American Studies at USC Upstate

Dr. Trevor Rubenzer earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 2007, and is currently the chair of the Department of History, Political Science, Philosophy, and American Studies at the University of South Carolina Upstate.  His primary research interest is U.S. foreign policy, specifically the impact of ethnic diasporas in the United States on U.S. foreign policy decision-making, and he has authored numerous journal articles on this subject. Dr. Rubenzer also has an interest in African defense policy; he has authored book chapters on South African and Nigerian Defense policy. He has also authored work on the Nigerian Civil War as well as the conflict between the Apartheid government of South Africa and various insurgent groups. Dr.  Rubenzer currently conducts research on the use of social media by ethnic diasporic groups to influence U.S. foreign policy and by the U.S. government as parts of its renewed emphasis on public diplomacy.
