A Word From Jamaica

Before I begin my next chapter, I wanted to share a few reflections and say thank you to the Upstate International community. As the Marketing and Communications Coordinator, it has been a joy to use creativity to help bring attention to UI’s mission and connect more people to the work happening here.

Farewell Drop By
Stop in anytime on
February 18, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the UI office. Come by to say hello, share a memory, or enjoy a quick visit with refreshments.

Creative Highlights
I am grateful that the creative work I shared through newsletters, flyers, social media, and events helped draw eyes toward UI. Some of my favorite learning experiences included:

• Creating a display at the GSP Airport for UI Month
• Designing interactive table pieces for events like Greer Goes Global
• Promoting dance events and programs such as Beyond the Headlines

Gratitude and Appreciation
Even with my previous experience, I learned so much during my time at UI. The relationships built with teachers, students, sponsors, partners, interns, volunteers, and staff have meant a great deal to me. Listening to people’s stories through craft gatherings, English Conversation Club activities, and everyday conversations gave me a deeper understanding of community and the importance of finding our place while supporting one another.

A special thank you to Tracie Frese for seeing me beyond my resume, Linley Crocker for being a wonderful coworker and friend, Andrew Skinner for his tech mentorship, and David Esch for his hands on guidance and dedication to communication. I am thankful for everyone who has been part of this journey.

Linley and an intern once surprised me by filling my desk with teddy bears. Every time I thought I had found them all, another one appeared, even tucked away in my drawer! It definitely brought a smile to my face that day.

What’s Next
I recently got married, and my husband has been stationed in Washington State. I will be relocating and look forward to starting a new adventure. If you have traveled to Washington and have favorite places or advice, I would love to hear from you. Feel free to stop by on February 18 or send me an email with your recommendations.

A Little About Me
I am the youngest of four and was raised partly in Salisbury, North Carolina, and Hampton, Virginia. I earned my BA in Graphic Design from Gardner-Webb University and have a passion for art in many forms, from painting and drawing to digital design. In my free time I enjoy seasonal reading, the outdoors, traveling, trying new activities, and relaxing with my cat Lola. One of my goals is to become an art director and travel to every continent except Antarctica.😅

Thank you for the support, encouragement, and kindness you have shown me. I wish Upstate International continued success.
