Topic Questions about Discussion:

Dr. Scott Baier will examine the resurgence of tariffs in President Trump’s second term and their disruptive impact on trade, industry, and local economies. As new restrictions target Canada, Mexico, China, Colombia, and the EU—along with broad tariffs on steel and aluminum—key questions remain:

  • What are the economic justifications for these policies, and do they hold up under scrutiny?
  • Are tariffs effectively protecting American industries, or are they creating unintended economic consequences?
  • How will these renewed trade battles reshape businesses, jobs, and investment in the Upstate and across South Carolina?
